6 Days Lemosho Route
With Jerry Tanzania Tours

With seven days of trip-time, our Kilimanjaro trek on the Lemosho Route takes longer than some of the alternatives, but is a bit quieter and gives acclimatization opportunity to trekkers... The landscape is varied, with possible animal sightings on the first day’s hike, when you start out from Londorosi Gate. You will have a private vehicle to take you to and from the mountain. Accommodation on the mountain on this trip will be in tented camps – a great experience, a true mountain adventure.

Chanya Lodge – High-Altitude Starting Point And Trekking To Shira 2 Camp

Lemosho Route

After an early breakfast (07.00hrs), you will leave the Chanya Lodge one hour later to arrive at the Londorosi Gate to acquire climbing permits around 11.20hrs, and in time to have your cooked lunch. After having lunch, you will continue by vehicle upwards towards starting altitude of 3,407 called Morum Picnic Site. Here you will see stunning views of the Shira Plateau for the first time.

The trail from your starting altitude to your first high-altitude camp, Shira 2 features a moderate gain in altitude and is not very challenging physically. Due to this, you will be able to begin the process of acclimatization properly. You project to reach 3,850 metres at Shira 2 in 5-6 hours, your walking distance today is only 11 km/9 miles. By the time you reach the camp, your professional mountain crew will have already prepared everything necessary, put up the tents, and begun preparing dinner.

From Shira 2 Camp To The Lava Tower And Descent To Baranco Camp

Lemosho Route

Today you have early scheduled breakfast again at 07.00hrs, ready for 08.30hrs departure. You will have around 10 km/6 miles to cover, but although you will finish your day only 50 metres higher than you started it, in between you have to climb to the crucial point of the route: Lava Tower. This section of the route has a lot of ascents and descents that end in a camp at 4,600 metres. Portions of the trek may be difficult, and it is common to experience some discomfort, but in order to successfully acclimate to the altitude you have to spend at least 1–2 hours here, so this is where you will enjoy your cooked lunch.

Then, you will descend to Baranco Camp at 3,900 metres for your overnight stop. Here you can see the famous Baranco Wall, majestic in both its massive size and steepness! The next day you will be climbing it, but don't worry: it features a very simple hiking trail and is not intimidating at all.

From Baranco Camp To Karanga Camp

Lemosho Route

This day you will wake up early and enjoy a warm and hearty breakfast at the same time as yesterday before starting to climb Baranco Wall. We recommend you leave the camp as early as possible to avoid crowds of the other groups, which can slow you down. Hiking up the gorge wall is not difficult and only takes around an hour. After the climb, you can have a rest and take photos in front of the Kibo volcano.

Then you will start a more difficult hike to Karanga Camp at 3,995 metres, which features a lot of ascents and descents during the route, but don't worry: your guides are experts at choosing an optimal pace for the party. After reaching the camp you will be offered warm lunch. Your overall altitude gain today will be only 95 meters.

Hiking time and Elevation: 3.5 – 4 hours’ walking, from Baranco Camp at 3,900 m to Karanga Camp at 3,995 m

From Karanga Camp To Barafu Camp

Lemosho Route

Another short day -in terms of distance – begins with your breakfast at the camp at 07.30hrs and another 08.30hrs departure. Today you will ascend about 670 metres in a distance of around 5 km/3 miles and walking time once again is between 3.5 and 4 hours.

You will be aiming to arrive at the Barafu Camp at 4,673 metres by 13.00hrs, when you will be rewarded with a cooked lunch. (With tomorrow being the summit day, it will be important to relax and prepare for the hard work ahead.) Dinner tonight is served at 17.30hrs, giving you time to get to bed early. After leaving Karanga, today’s stage climbs steadily, passing through barren, rocky landscape, with the Decken and Kersten glaciers visible away to your left. At the top of the climb, the landscape remains bleak as you descend into a valley and you get your first sight of another glacier, Rebmann. At the end of this valley is today’s goal, the Barafu Summit Camp, at which you arrive after a short, steep scramble and a walk.

Ascent To Uhuru Peak And Descent To Mweka Camp

Lemosho Route

Today is the most challenging day, but hopefully with the great sense of achievement of reaching your goal – the summit of Kilimanjaro! Your schedule for your ‘Summit Day’ is necessarily very different to your other days on the mountain. Rising at 23.00hrs, you take your tea and biscuits at 23.30hrs before a midnight departure.

The day starts with the long, tough climb from Barafu at 4,673 metres to Stella Point at 5,756 metres; for some of this you will be walking on scree, making your trek more difficult. From Stella Point, there is still another 139 metres of ascent and 45 minutes’ walk to the summit. Your goal is to reach the summit by around 07.00hrs then celebrate reaching the top, take your precious photos and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience. After the summit at 5,895 metres above sea level, you return to Barafu Camp at 4,673 metres, where you rest for a couple of hours, take a brunch and then leave again at 13.30hrs to continue to descend to Mweka Camp at 3,100 metres where you will spend the night. You would expect to arrive there at 17.00hrs and take your dinner at 19.00hrs. (In total, you will cover around 17 km/10 miles today with about 11-14 hours of walking – tough going, but with your objective hopefully achieved!)

Hiking time and Elevation: 11-14 hours’ walking, from 4,673 m at Barafu Camp to the summit at 5,895 m, then down to 3,100 m at Mweka Camp

Descent From Mweka Camp To Mweka Gate – Chanya Lodge

Lemosho Route

Still thrilled by your achievement, breakfast is taken at 07.00hrs and at 08.00hrs you can take the chance to reward your trekking team at the ‘Tipping Celebration.’

Although you will still have 10 km/6 miles to walk, departure is at a leisurely 09.00hrs and you will descend down to the Mweka Gate which sits at an altitude of 1,640 metres. There, you will be served a cooked lunch at midday and be presented with your hard-earned certificate. Your driver will be waiting to bring you back to Chanya Lodge, where you can choose to relax – or, if you have any energy left, to celebrate!

Discover the essentials arranged
for enjoyable journey.

Our Kilimanjaro packages cover all transfers outlined in the program. When you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, one of our drivers will pick you up in a spacious and comfortable Toyota Vellfire and take you to your hotel. Our cars have large trunks that can accommodate plenty of luggage. Inside you will find complimentary bottled water, and wet wipes for your convenience. All our cars undergo regular examination and maintenance by our in-house team of technicians.

Our driving team consists of experienced and knowledgeable drivers, all of whom speak fluent English.

For the transfer to the trailhead of your trekking adventure, we will use Toyota Hiace or Coaster, which are better suited for navigating the wilderness terrain en route to Mt. Kilimanjaro. These cars are built to handle rough trails and ensure your safety.

At the end of your adventure, we will also provide you with a return transfer to the Kilimanjaro International Airport. With our comprehensive package, you can rest easy and enjoy the tour without concerns about your transportation.

The night before the climb and the night following the descent, you will be accommodated in a 4* hotel in the area of Moshi Town. By default - shared double occupancy room unless you order a single supplement. We always offer Chanya Lodge and Tulivu Kilimanjaro Retreat as the first option, as both properties are our top partners in Moshi. Should both of them be unavailable, you will be offered an alternative property with the matching comfort and service level. In your hotel, you will find everything a traveler needs: professional staff, a restaurant, a swimming pool, comfortable rooms with mosquito nets, laundry service, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Jerry Tanzania Tours provides a Kilimanjaro expedition with all the necessary amenities for a safe and comfortable camping experience.

  • Comfortable and reliable Kilimanjaro tents
For all our adventures, we use durable 4-season tents that will keep you warm at night and safe from rain. Each tent has a buffer zone where you can remove your dusty boots and rain gear before entering. We’ve consistently used this model for several years and haven’t had any issues.
  • Though originally designed for three people, we don’t place more than two in each tent. There is enough space for two people and their duffel bags to feel comfortable. You’ll share the tent with your travel companion. If you’re traveling alone, we’ll pair you with a same-sex tent buddy.
  • Thick sleeping mats
Our treks include 3-inch sleeping mats produced by our company’s tailor shop, which is located right at our Moshi trekking base.
Camping tables with stainless steel cutlery and ceramics crockery
They are served and cleaned by a dedicated kitchen mountain crew at each meal. At Jerry Tanzania Tours, we are committed to reducing plastic waste and never use disposable tableware.
  • Spacious mess tents
Produced for Jerry by RedFox, a reputable brand and producer of outdoor equipment, our dining tents are strong, wind- and rainproof, allowing for a comfortable dining and socializing experience, even in bad weather.
  • Foldable camping chairs
Durable and comfortable chairs that offer excellent back and arm support, they’ll make evening get-togethers in the mess tents a pleasant pastime with your teammates. Grab one and enjoy an epic sunset from the edge of the camp!
  • Handwashing stand
Our mountain team regularly fill it with warm water so that you can keep your hands and face hygienic.
  • The camp managers arrive at the camping grounds hours ahead of your party to pick the most picturesque location at a distance from other trekking groups. They also keep a close eye on the tents and other camping equipment to ensure everything runs smoothly. Each camp manager carries a repair kit in case a quick maintenance is needed, although our expedition managers inspect each tent before the adventures starts, making such situations unlikely.

  • Our Kilimanjaro chefs and waiters will take care of preparing and serving your breakfasts, lunches, and dinners throughout the adventure. The menu has been designed in consultation with a professional dietitian to ensure that our meals are both delicious and energy-rich, providing hikers with the necessary nutrition.

A private portable toilet is one of the small details that make a big difference on a classic Kilimanjaro adventure. It guarantees comfort, privacy and better hygiene throughout the trek. You avoid the shared public restrooms on the mountain that can often be crowded or not well maintained. A private toilet tent is set up at every camp and is regularly sanitized by a dedicated porter who manages it each day. Portable toilet is not available on the Marangu route due to the Kilimanjaro National Park regulations.

On your expedition you will be led by our first-rate Kilimanjaro mountain guides. The guides will be supported by our hard-working porters, camp managers, and other members of the crew. The porters will pitch up the camp ahead of your arrival, bring water from the mountain streams, and carry all of the adventure's supplies and gear. The mountain chefs will attend to the camp kitchen to provide you with nutritious and tasty meals.

We carry bottled oxygen supplies for each of our expedition. The guiding team uses it to make the high-altitude acclimatization process easier and prevent acute mountain sickness (AMS). Our guides administer bottled oxygen as soon as a hiker develops the first signs of AMS, and that typically stabilizes the oxygen saturation, allowing them to continue the expedition.

Every dawn and late afternoon on the trek, our guides perform medical check-ups to ensure that both climbers and crew members (including porters, camp managers, and chefs) are properly acclimating to the altitude. During these check-ups, the guides will enquire generally on your health and measure your oxygen saturation level. In some cases, they may also need to check your blood pressure or listen to your lungs with a stethoscope to assess your breathing.

It's crucial for all climbers to attend those medical check-ups, even for those who feel well and don't have any altitude-related symptoms. They allow our guiding team to diagnose the early stages of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) and take preventive measures to ensure that everyone is acclimating properly and that the trek is a pleasant and safe adventure.

Jerry Kilimanjaro expeditions are fully inclusive of all park fees that every Kilimanjaro climber is liable to pay. This includes camping and conservation fees, rescue fee, crew fee, forest fee (on certain routes), and other payments. These payments make up about half of the total price and are one of the reasons why Mt Kilimanjaro trekking tours are more expensive compared to the other popular destinations.

6 Days Lemosho Route Cost Exclude

Personalize your adventure
with optional experiences.

Our Kilimanjaro packages don’t include international flights. You will be responsible for covering those costs separately. Feel free to contact your tour consultant to get recommendations about the airlines operating flights to Tanzania.

Tipping your climbing crew is a well-established practice in mountain trekking all over the world. Though never mandatory at Jerry Tanzania Tours, our clients are encouraged to tip their mountain crews if their performance is up to your expectations. A recommended amount is USD 300-400 per participant.

For most travellers, a single-entry visa valid for 90 days costs USD 50. Citizens of the USA, however, need to pay USD 100 for a multi-entry visa. For further details on Kilimanjaro Visa, please consult your tour consultant.

For your ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro, essential personal equipment such as hiking boots, sleeping bags, trekking pants, thermals, and trekking poles are necessary. You can view the complete gear list on our website.

If you wish to rent equipment from us, please send us your requirements in advance, and we will have your gear ready upon your arrival in Tanzania.

Travel insurance is not included in our climbing packages. For our Kilimanjaro trekking expeditions, all participants are required to have travel insurance that covers trekking to altitudes of up to 6000 meters and a helicopter evacuation. Since the requirements and costs of insurance vary across different countries, please contact your insurance provider to make sure that those requirements are covered, and find out about the exact costs.

The hotel accommodation included in your package is based on bed and breakfast. This means you will need to cover the cost of lunch and dinner. You can choose to eat these meals at the hotel's restaurant or explore other dining options in Moshi.
