Why exactly 40,000 people in a year are seeking to Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro? A mountain so popular it has become known as “Everyman’s Everest”? It’s because of the sheer power the mountain showcases and the thrill it gives to its climbers.
Kevin Adler and Neil Crouthamel from the USA have a little something to say about their iconic Kilimanjaro Climb –
Preparing For The Kilimanjaro Climb
Preparing To Climb Mount Kilimanjaro was as hectic as it was exciting. After all, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s tallest mountain and thinking of summiting it can scare even the bravest.
Preparing for your Kilimanjaro climb is all about deciding what to need to do and buy and take with you. You need to have the perfect clothes to help with the extreme Kilimanjaro weather. Your daily necessities like boots, walking poles and backpack are very important too.
Packing took forever but we were finally ready to go and fulfil our Kilimanjaro dreams with Jerry Tanzania.
Climbing Kilimanjaro Through The Northern Circuit Route
We chose the Northern Circuit Route because it is the newest and longest route on Mount Kilimanjaro. This route avoids crowds. Over 9 days, we had a fantastic journey and a great chance of Kilimanjaro Summit successfully.
The Northern Circuit is longer than the other Kilimanjaro Trails, taking a minimum of eight days to complete. Many tour operators even offer a nine-day trek.
The additional time on the mountain means that Success Rates For Northern Circuit trekkers are relatively high.
The northern circuit offers stunning scenery including the quiet, rarely visited northern slope. Each day, we saw the landscape change dramatically. It changed as we ascended from the dusty savannah through lush rain forest to the alpine desert. We saw continuous changes in view until we finally reached the glacier at the mountain’s peak.
Our team of competent Jerry Tanzania guides ensured that we made it to the summit safely. A legion of porters carried our gear and camping equipment. As we began each day’s trek, our porters zipped ahead of us to set up the evening’s campsite. That’s where they greeted us with songs, high fives, and best of all, popcorn and hot chocolate.
It was fascinating to see how much the landscape changed around us, not to mention the temperature as well.
The Kilimanjaro Summit At Night
On summit night, our guides came to wake us up in the late evening. We put on all our layers of clothing and checked our gear one last time. It was to make sure we won’t get cold later on.
To be successful in reaching Uhuru Peak, we ate plenty and got rest before your Kilimanjaro Climb assent. We made sure to have our summit night kit ready with warm clothing, head torches, socks, hand warmers, and scarves.
Summit night wasn’t really easy for us. Exhaustion was at its highest and it took us about 10 hours to reach the finally reach the summit.
Jerry Tanzania Was A Delight To Work With
Jerry Tanzania’s guides were the friendliest and experienced guides we could have wished for on top of Mount Kilimanjaro. They took care of all our needs, encouraging us to keep on moving even in the harshest conditions.
Our team of guides ensured that we made it to the summit safely. And our lovely Kilimanjaro Porters carried our gear and camping equipment for us. We couldn’t really have done it without Jeremiah and his team of guides and porters. They somehow made it easier for us to reach the summit.
