Mount Kilimanjaro Trekking depends on which Best Kilimanjaro routes you choose and how many days you take to travel.
The different route gives you different days of travel and different level of altitudes to be experienced. Main Kilimanjaro Route to be considered is the route that gives you more time on the mountain and lesser time on elevation.
However, every route has its own way of uniqueness and offers beautiful sceneries on the trail and mind-blowing landscapes. Some routes also give a chance to witness wildlife.
Here are Few Best Kilimanjaro route options which we have researched and curated for you;
Lemosho route is one of the most preferred Kilimanjaro Routes compared to other routes and it starts through a lush forest and continues towards Shira plateau. Most of the tour operators recommend a minimum of 7 days' attempt to this route but 8 or 9 days attempt would be preferred for higher acclimatization and a successful summit, making it the best Kilimanjaro route for trekking.
If you go for 7 days your success rate would decrease by 20% that is, the 9 days trek would give you a 90% success rate but 7 days trek would you only 70% success rate, and in between the 8 days trek will give you 80% success rate.
Be wise to choose the longer days and enjoy the successful summit.
The Machame route is also called a Whiskey route, and one of the difficult routes to Kilimanjaro. Machame route is the most scenic route to Kilimanjaro hence it has become the most popular route for climbing Kilimanjaro. It takes almost 6-7 days to reach the summit.
The Kilimanjaro Machame Route has a success rate of 60% to the summit, as it is a difficult route, and climbers come without any preparation.
The Marangu Route is referred to as the coca-cola route. This is the only route that uses the same path to and fro. Marangu route is the most crowded route to Kilimanjaro. The route is a comfortable walking path and an easy route to climb.
However, if you are doing it on 6 days with acclimatization, you will be able to successfully summit Mount Kilimanjaro.
The Marangu route success rate depends according to the days taken to climb. If you are attempting a 5 days climb, the success rate would be 60-70% but if you are attempting 6 days or more with additional acclimatization, then the success rate would go up to 80-90%.
The Rongai Route is the only route that climbs from the north, the climb is from the south-east and you can see both sides of the mountain. The extra cost makes this route a bit more expensive. The Rongai Route has easy climb profile as Marangu route and it rises steadily, there aren’t any steeps involved and also no ups and downs.
With a good operator, you have an 80% chance to make it to the crater rim and 70% to make it to the Uhuru peak.
The Umbwe Route is a direct route, very steep, very tough route compared to other routes. The Umbwe route meets Machame route near the Barranco Camp on the trails of the next day and this shows how steep the Umbwe route is. This route is preferred by most experienced climbers and not for the fresh climbers. This is the route that is not used much.
The Umbwe route has a lesser summit success rate, as it doesn’t give much time for acclimatization and you may not be able to adjust to the altitude.
