How Far Do Your Expectations Meet The Reality While Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro?

So, you are planning for Climbing Kilimanjaro too? Well, who isn’t after this long-lasting vacation of months! As we have already started receiving inquiries from our clients, we have briefed the detailed Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro guide here just for your reference.

Let’s dive directly into the myths associated with the Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro where our client’s ‘expectation’ & ‘reality’ on the mountain clashes and is quite different than what they might have expected.

For example, you may be expecting to climb the fastest on the mountain to compete with your group, but that isn’t the reality. The slower you climb the mountain the longer you are to reach. So go slow, really slow! Similarly, there are many other myths that we will be bursting for you today before you start your Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing journey. So let’s get rolling!

KILIMANJARO CREW – EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY

KILIMANJARO CREW – EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY

The Kilimanjaro Crew of Jerry Tanzania Tours is the dedicated team that assists you in summiting the mountain with ease. They are the ones who provide you with the best advice, care, and support on the mountain and make sure you are healthy on the mountain.

Expectation: There Will Be Two Guides And A Few Porters.

Yes, we have been asked this a lot. It may seem like you will be accompanied by only a few guides and porters, and that maximum 7-8 or at least less than 10 Kilimanjaro crew members are enough for your Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing. But this isn’t true.

Reality: We Rolled In A Caravan Of 38 Deep.

You are not provided with a small crew with you on the mountain and this is because we care about your Kilimanjaro safety. We at Jerry Tanzania Tours take groups of 8-10 climbers and provide at least 5 – 6 members (a guide, 3 porters, a cook), per climber. This means that if you are participating in a group climb, you will be accompanied by 50-55 Kilimanjaro Crew members that include – Kilimanjaro Guides, Kilimanjaro Porters, Kilimanjaro Cooks, etc.

KILIMANJARO FOOD – EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY

KILIMANJARO FOOD – EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY

What is that keeps you alive thriving on the mountain? It is the none other than the delicious Kilimanjaro Food, which many may have not given so much importance to, but is extremely essential. Eating healthy and sleeping well even on high altitude, gives you that much-needed energy that is essential to hiking the mountain successfully.

Expectation: Meat will disappear after the first day.

We know just like most of our clients, you may have made up your mind that if Jerry Tanzania Tours is providing you with the sample meal list that includes chicken almost in every meal on the mountain, we must be just lying, isn’t it? Because from where will we get, chicken in the mountains?

Reality: You will be feasting on chicken legs almost daily.

Oh yes, we aren’t just bluffing about this, you can ask our former clients if you wish. The quality of Kilimanjaro Food that we serve is supreme and none of our clients have ever complained to us about it.

You will be provided with eggs, millet porridge, sausage and toast in breakfast, roasted chicken leg with a hardboiled egg, the unforgettable “meat in pastry,” fruit, and a cookie or cake in lunch, and a traditional stew called matoke (of beef, potatoes, and root vegetables) in your dinner.

KILIMANJARO MUSIC – EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY

KILIMANJARO MUSIC – EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY

The Kilimanjaro people are musical and you will notice them humming their favorite songs while hiking with much zeal!

Expectation: Tanzanians listen to Bonga Flava.

We know you must be expecting the famous Kilimanjaro song or the Tanzanian soundtrack of the local rhythms.  Yes, we do welcome you with the beautiful Kilimanjaro Song but we are more to music than that and our tastes vary too!

Reality: Tanzanians love Céline Dion.

Depending on the cultural styles and personal tastes, the locals of Mount Kilimanjaro listen to all kinds of music and there is no doubt in that.

CLIMBING MOUNT KILIMANJARO GEAR LIST – EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY

KILIMANJARO GEAR LIST – EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY

The Kilimanjaro Gear List is the most essential equipment that we provide our clients. It helps them climb Mount Kilimanjaro with the utmost ease. Some of the gears are – pulse oximeter, Portable Defibrillator, Supplemental Emergency Oxygen, sleeping bags, camping gears, etc.

Expectation: We’ll play Frisbee.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is fun but a serious task at the same time. Many travelers do not realize the complexity of the planning that is put for a single group climb. Therefore one needs to be aware of the items that we need to pack, and not carry unnecessary items on the mountain. This is because the maximum weight that can be carried by Kilimanjaro Porters on the mountain is 20 kg per porter and beyond that is unauthorized. So think practical and pack smart for Kilimanjaro.

Reality: We never played Frisbee.

Kilimanjaro Climbing is not an easy task and requires serious focus and guidance. The climbers need to understand that everything the Kilimanjaro Guides are saying is for their benefits and must abide by their advice.

Having fun on the mountain, with your fellow climbers is a beautiful experience but there is so much more to the climb than just what people may assume watching Kilimanjaro Climbing Videos or reading testimonial blogs.
