Tipping is though not mandatory in Tanzania but it is expected in Tanzania. You can say it is a tradition in Tanzania. You are expected to tip your guide, hotel staff, cook or anyone who serves you during your stay. Here is an approximate amount that you are expected to pay during your safari trip.
For Tanzania safari guides (if you are choosing a camping safari) the tips are about the US $10 to the US $15 per person per day. You can half the amount for a half day.
The lodges or permanent campsites have community jars in which they collect tips for the porters, food servers, cleaning staff and service staff. The tipper person is usually US$3 to US$5 per day.
While staying in a hotel in city or beach resorts the hose-keeping staffs are expected to be tipped US$1 to US$2 per person per day.
You can tip US$1 to US$2 to the porters at the airports.
